Heatwave to Affect Several Provinces Across Morocco

Rabat – A new heatwave is expected to strike several provinces, with temperatures reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius.

A new weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said temperatures ranging between 38 and 42 degrees could affect the provinces of Aousserd, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, and Tinghir on Sunday.

The same weather is also expected to affect Zagora, Settat, El Kelaa Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Figuig, Jerada, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and Errachidia.

Temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees are expected to hit the provinces of Sidi Bennour, Khenifra, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouezzane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Essaouira, Khemisset, and Meknes from Monday through Wednesday.

Temperatures between 42 and 45 degrees are expected during the same period in the provinces of El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, Aousserd, Settat, Chichaoua, and Marrakech.

Similar weather is expected between June and September as the country braces for the 2026 summer season.

Morocco experienced similar weather during the spring season, including April last year, a period marked by  drought and dry conditions.

The North African country endured seven years of drought and low rainfall until mid-November, when significant precipitation helped ease conditions and support a partial recovery. 

Recent forecasts from Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), said agricultural added value is projected to jump 116% in 2026, supported by a cereal harvest estimated at 90 million quintals.

This reflects the weather-related rebound in Morocco’s agricultural activities.
