Morocco Extends Night Curfew By 2 Weeks

Rabat – Morocco’s government has decided to extend the nationwide night curfew by two more weeks. 

The extension will be effective from tomorrow, March 30.

The measure is in line with Morocco’s preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.

The Moroccan government stressed the need to maintain preventive measures in continuing to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“This decision is made on the basis of the recommendations of the Scientific and Technical Commission concerning the need to maintain the necessary measures to fight against the coronavirus,” the government’s statement said.

The curfew prevents the movement of citizens and residents between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The decision excludes people with exceptional reasons such as professional obligations or medical emergencies.

Businesses have to close at 8 p.m. every evening. 

The new extension is part of Morocco’s state of emergency.

Morocco announced the state of emergency in March 2020 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

To date, Morocco has confirmed 494,659 COVID-19 cases in total, including 482,352 recoveries, and 8978 deaths.

The country also launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign, seeking to ensure herd immunity.

The country seeks to vaccinate 80% of the population.

The country has given 4,302,183 people the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of March 29.

Approximately 3,332,292 people have received the second dose of the vaccine in Morocco.
