Rabat – Following the Israel-Palestine ceasefire, Morocco’s Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani sent his congratulations to Hamas “for the victory of the Palestinian people.”
El Othmani addressed the congratulations to the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and published them on the Justice and Development Party’s official webpage.
“It gives me pleasure… to present to you and pass through to you all the brotherly Palestinian people with my warmest congratulations, asking Allah to protect you from all evil and harm, to have mercy on all the martyrs, and to heal all the wounded and injured,” wrote the Moroccan head of government.
The congratulations came after Israeli initiated a nearly two-week-long campaign of violence and aggression against the Palestinian people. The Israeli Defense Forces killed at least 248 Palestinians, including 65 children, injured nearly 2,000 Palestinians, and caused a minimum of 72,000 to be displaced.

El Othmani had spoken with Haniyeh recently, as the two held a phone call on May 12, not long after the initial violence erupted. The Hamas leader informed the Moroccan head of government of the situation on the ground, in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip in particular.
During the call, El Othmani confirmed Morocco’s categorical rejection of all Israeli unilateral measures affecting the legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.
Besides renewing Morocco’s rejection of Israeli sanctioned violence against Palestinians and their land, El Othmani also condemned the aggression in Jerusalem, in particular the illegal forced eviction of Palestinians from their homes to give the houses to Israeli settlers.
“Morocco places the Palestinian cause and Al-Quds Al-Sharif at the forefront of its priorities,” El Othmani stressed.
“This is the euphoria of victory,” said Khalil al-Hayya, one senior leader of Hamas, following the ceasefire. “We say to our people, whose homes were destroyed and those who were displaced, we will build the houses that were destroyed by the occupation, and we will bring back the smile,” he added.
