Rabat – The Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Said Zniber, on Friday announced the transformation of a sporting facility in Fez into a new COVID-19 vaccination center. The new vaccination site seeks to accelerate the progress of the vaccination campaign in the region.
The sporting facility, La Salle 11 Janvier, has a maximum capacity of 3,000 sporting fans, making it an ample site to offer COVID-19 vaccinations while observing social distancing protocol.
Zniber added that the region established the new vaccination center following the Ministry of Health’s announcement regarding the extension of the vaccination campaign to the 25-29 age group.

According to the local authorities, many young Moroccans and others eligible to receive the vaccine flocked to the new vaccination site. Despite the projected success of the new location in vaccinating residents of the Fez-Meknes region, the Ministry of Health has warned of overcrowding at COVID-19 vaccination centers.
Morocco has fully-vaccinated over 10 million people, but the daily count of confirmed COVID-19 continues to rise.
The Fez-Meknes region has kept the number of new infections relatively low, with a daily average of approximately 134 cases. Other regions such as Casablanca-Settat have recorded over 2,000 new cases per day.
The new Fez-Meknes vaccination center at La Salle 11 Janvier will be open every day until 8 p.m.
