Rabat – Maroc Telecom’s Supervisory Board announced its decision to renew Abdeslam Ahizoune’s term as Chairman of the Management Board of the group, for two additional fiscal years, until March 1, 2023.

Maroc Telecom (IAM) issued a statement on Tuesday, July 27, regarding Ahizoune’s renewal, adding that Brahim Boudaoud, Hassan Rachad, Francois Vitte, and Abdelkader Maamar are current members of the Management Board.

The Supervisory Board has appointed two new members. Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi, replacing Obaid Bin Humaid Al Tayer for the remaining term of the latter, i.e. until the end of the Ordinary General Meeting called to approve the financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2024.

Second newcomer is Kamal Shehadi, replacing Saleh Al Abdooli for the remaining term of the latter’s mandate, i.e. until the end of the Ordinary General Meeting called to rule on the accounts of the financial year ending December 31, 2021.

The statement also specified that Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi has been elected Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Additionally, Luis Enriquez was ratified as a member of the Supervisory Board by the Ordinary General Meeting.

In 1992, Abdeslam Ahizoune was Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, and Director General of the Office National des Postes et Telecommunication (ONTP).

He served as ONPT’s director until 1997.

Abdeslam Ahizoune continued his career in the private sector. In 1999, the ONPT was divided into two separate entities, Poste Maroc and Maroc Telecom. Ahizoune then became chairman and CEO of Maroc Telecom from 1999 until 2001, when Vivendi Group acquired a stake in the company.

Abdeslam Ahizoune was then appointed Chairman of the Management Board, a position that he has been reappointed to.

Maroc Telecom has experienced constant growth and development under his leadership. The company’s revenues increased from MAD 3.8 billion in 2001, to MAD 29.9 billion in 2012.

Having demonstrated his abilities within IAM, Abdeslam Ahizoune was then chosen to expand Maroc Telecom internationally. Maroc Telecom now holds a majority stake in three African telecommunications giants, namely Mauritel (Mauritania), Onatel (Burkina Faso), Gabon Telecom and SOTELMA (Mali).
