Rabat – The South African Kaizer Chiefs Football Club embarked on their journey to Morocco on Wednesday, July 14, in preparation to face the Egyptian Al Ahly at the CAF Champions League Cup final, held in the upcoming weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs club, often abbreviated as Chiefs or referred to by their Zulu nickname AmaKhosi, is a professional football club from the South African city of Naturena. The team plays in the South African Premier Division, also known as the Premier Soccer League.
“We are looking forward to the journey,” said the team’s Marketing Director Jessica Motaung in an official statement, adding that “this is a historic moment for the Club. It has been a long journey for the team and the time has arrived to complete what we have started on 29th November in Cameroon.”
The championship’s long-awaited final will take place in Casablanca’s Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday, July 17. Tensions are running high as the match approaches, considering the fact that the last and only time the two teams faced each other in the 2002 CAF Super Cup, the Chiefs suffered a devastating loss with a final score of 4-1.

In the coming weekend, the South African team will have the opportunity to turn the tides on the historic loss.
Morocco’s Wydad AC, Casablanca’s own professional football club, got knocked out of the tournament in a game against the Chiefs, who scored a goal against Wydad during the first leg of the Semi-Final on June 19. Wydad fought valiantly, with 28 shots compared to the Chief’s three, and holding the ball 79% of the game, but ultimately the Moroccan team lost to the South African team’s only goal in the semi-finals at the 34th minute.
On the other hand, Egypt’s Al Ahly advanced to the finals after defeating their opponents, ES Tunis, scoring four goals against Tunis’ zero between the two legs of the Semi-Finals. The Cairo team, considered among the giants of African football, scored one goal against Tunis on the first leg of the Semi-Finals on June 19, and an additional three goals during the second leg on June 26.
