Rabat – In the most recent update to Morocco’s travel restrictions, the country’s Foreign Ministry announced that foreigners residing in Morocco will be able to self-isolate for five days upon arriving in the kingdom from a List B country.
On the 5th day, travelers of Moroccan or foreign descent will be required to submit a negative PCR test. Children under 11 years of age are exempt from PCR screening regardless of their origin.
The announcement comes after many travelers raised concerns over the ministry’s former, ambiguous statement on which travelers may self-isolate for five days rather than spend 10 days in a government-approved hotel.

Morocco has continued to update its international border policies as global COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
On Monday, Morocco’s Ministry of Health announced that Spain, France, and Portugal would move to list B, along with 76 other “high-risk” countries. The countries’ List B status began July 13 at 11:59 p.m.

The COVID-19 health situation in Morocco has relatively deteriorated in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Morocco recorded 2,257 cases, 9 deaths, and 1,088 recoveries, which is the largest number of daily confirmed cases since December 2020.
As the number of confirmed cases continues to rise, many are questioning whether or not the Moroccan government will impose harsher lockdown measures.
The government has not commented on further international travel regulation changes.
Operation Marhaba, the government’s annual program to welcome Moroccans traveling home for summer vacation, continues to boost tourism to the kingdom. Yet many critics have accused the government of reopening too early.
Citing the ongoing vaccination campaign, many other observers support Morocco’s decision to reopen its borders as the kingdom is by far the most vaccinated country in Africa and one of the most vaccinated in the MENA region. Since launching its vaccination campaign in January 2021, Morocco has fully-vaccinated 9,489,591 people.
