Rabat – In line with Israel’s General Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alon Ushpiz’s visit to Morocco, the Israeli diplomat on Wednesday extended a formal invitation to Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Should he accept the invitation, Bourita would be the first Moroccan foreign minister to visit Israel.
Alon Ushpiz visited Morocco to promote the ongoing recently “normalized” and improving bilateral relations between the two countries.
Yair Lapid, Israel’s current alternative prime minister, announced Ushpiz’s visit and the Israeli foreign ministry confirmed it on Twitter on Tuesday.

Despite the May 2021 clashes between Israel and Hamas, Morocco has sought to develop its newfound relationship with Israel.
After the current Israeli PM Naftali Bennet established a transition government in June 2021, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI sent a message of congratulations which signalled Morocco’s renewed commitment to the US brokered Abraham Accords.
“Israel views Morocco as an important friend and partner in the efforts to advance peace and security in the region,” said Bennett in a statement.
In addition to the diplomatic meeting between Alon Ushpiz, Morocco’s Ambassador and General Director of Political Affairs, Fouad Yazourh, and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Morocco and Israel appear determined to celebrate the inaugural flights between the two nations in late July.
Israel has yet to establish a permanent embassy in Morocco and many observers see the most recent visit as a preliminary meeting before the official announcement of an Israeli embassy in the kingdom.
News outlets such as Axios have reported that Morocco will turn its Israeli liaison office into an embassy.
