On Monday, July 12, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University announced the signing of a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Med-Or Leonardo foundation and LUISS Guido Carli university of Italy to enforce academic and scientific cooperation between the two universities, including the offer of scholarships to promising Moroccan students interested in LUISS’ two-year master’s program.
The agreement comes as a part of a strategic partnership between Morocco and Italy in several fields such as trade, migration, diplomacy, the fight against terrorism and crimes, as well as cultural and scientific cooperation, which was embodied mainly in the Joint Declaration on the Multi-dimensional Strategic Partnership, strongly advocated for by the two nations’ Ministers of foreign affairs, Italy’s Luigi Di Maio and Morocco’s Nasser Bourita, in 2019.
It is the first project of Med-Or, a foundation created by the Italian multinational “Leonardo” with the purpose of strengthening exchanges and cooperation between Italy and the countries of the Med-Or region (Mediterranean, the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and the Near and Far East) through research and academia, as well as cultural initiatives.
Marco Minniti, the head of Med-Or, described it as “a bridge through which ideas, programs and projects can circulate, strengthening the age-old relationships that bind Italy and Morocco”.
The partnership aims to highlight the strong bonds between Morocco and Italy, by promoting education and fostering academics, which are key components in this cooperation, Ambassador of Italy in Morocco, Armando Barucco emphasized.
