Ambassadors Study Morocco’s Anti-Terror Operations During BCIJ Tour

Denver- Morocco granted several foreign dignitaries an exclusive look into the internal operations of the country’s premier security force, during a tour of the headquarters of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) on Thursday, August 5.

The tour consisted of dignitaries from Cameroon, Chad, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Rwanda, Nigeria, Belgium, Tunisia, Portugal, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Mauritania, Kazakhstan, South Korea, the US, Libya, Canada, and Spain.

Ambassadors visited the BCIJ headquarters as part of Morocco’s initiative towards transparency in its security operations. The BCIJ is well known for its reputation as a leading anti-terror force within North Africa. The unit has worked to foil numerous terror operations, as well as human trafficking rings, and drug smuggling organizations since its inception.

Some of the 22 dignitaries were also accompanied by top security officials from their own law enforcement units, who had the opportunity to learn more about what makes the BCIJ so effective in their operations, and hopefully transfer that information to their own agencies.

Ambassadors paid particular attention to Morocco’s success in combating both terror and organized crimes within its borders. Director of the BCIJ Cherkaoui Habboub led the tour, and representatives discussed the importance of strengthening security cooperation with Morocco, highlighting the security deterioration in the Sahel as a prime example.

After the tour, officials discussed the “globally recognized role” that Morocco held in international security. Abdelati Habek, President of the Diplomatic Foundation, expressed that Morocco’s security institutions had the ability to not only “preserve the security of Moroccans, but also cooperate with other countries in the security field.”

The Diplomatic Foundation also presented an award to BCIJ Director Habboub, theDirector General of the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) and Directorate General of National Territory Surveillance (DGST) Abdellatif Hammouchi for their efforts to preserve international security.

In addition to dismantling terror and criminal operations within Morocco, the BCIJ also provides crucial intelligence for security partners, including informing many countries of Moroccan nationals who have fled Morocco, but still present potential threats to other nations. The BCIJ has contacted security forces from across the globe in attempts to maintain both international security and stability.
