Meknes – Morocco will host eight African qualification matches for Qatar World Cup 2022. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and authorities have made every effort to ensure that all these matches are played under the best conditions.
The country was selected to host the games as several countries are undergoing an unstable security and health situation, and lacking infrastructures that meet the standards set by the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) and Confederation of African Football (CAF). Morocco is considered to be the 24th safest country in the North African region.
The games are scheduled to take place between October 6-12, as part of the qualification matches for the upcoming World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Games will be held in Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, and Casablanca.
During the first match, on October 6, Morocco will face Guinea Bissau at 8 p.m. local time at Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat. On October 7, Mali and Kenya will play at 8 p.m. at the Stade Adrar in Agadir. Djibouti will be rivalling Burkina Faso at 8 p.m. on October 8, at the Grand Stade in Marrakech.
On October 9, the Guinea-Sudan match will take place at 2 p.m local time at the Stadium Adrar of Agadir, while Guinea Bissau and Morocco’s second match will be held at 8 p.m at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca.
On October 11, Mozambique will face Cameroon at 2 p.m. at the Ibn Battouta Stadium in Tangier, and Burkina Faso and Djibouti will play at 5 p.m. at the Grand Stade in Marrakech. On the last day, October 12, Guinea-Morocco will play their second match at 8 p.m at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat.
The FRMF has prepared buses for each of the delegations and arranged hotel reservations and training grounds. The federation also provided support for the arrival of the teams and enhanced security requirements.
The north-African country has already launched a project to build nine new stadiums and renovate five existing ones. In March 2018, Morocco presented its bid for organizing the World Cup 2026. Moulay Hafid Elalamy said, back then, that $3 billion (MAD 27 billion) will be allocated for stadium renovations and construction.
