Rabat- Prior to the meeting of the 4th commission of the United Nations General Assembly, several human rights activists and associative actors have called for an end to the oppression of the populations in the camps of Tindouf in Algeria.
“The international community can no longer ignore the dangerous situation” prevailing in the Polisario-run Tindouf camps, asserted Mohamed Elaissaoui, a human rights activist representing the “Organization for Ending Human Rights Violations in the Tindouf Camps.”
He noted that Polisario should not be allowed to separate children from their parents and to deny them access to education and dignity.
Taking issue with Polisario’s flagrant violation of human rights, Elaissaoui said that Polisario militias have abused, exploited, and forced many children to take part in military activities.
The Tindouf camps have become a “fertile ground” for terrorist organizations that recruit children and young people who are marginalized and abused, Elaissaoui said, adding that the collusion between the Polisario Front and terrorist groups is no longer a secret.

Khalid Bendriss, a representative of the “Association for Support of the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative,” stated that it is time to find a solution to the conflict around the Western Sahara issue within the framework of an autonomy initiative.
He also urged the international community to take immediate action to curtail the suffering of sequestered refugees in the Tindouf camps.
Echoing similar concerns, petitioner Saad Bennani expressed concern for the plight of children living in these camps. Living at the mercy of a military junta that disregards the value of human life, he argued, children in the camps are denied their right to education and are exposed to exploitation and military recruitment.
The separatists must face the consequences of their crimes against humanity, Bennani insisted.
Touria Hmyene, director of the Association for Women Kidnapped in Tindouf Camps, said that Polisario militias, funded by Algeria, have committed crimes in the Tindouf camps for more than four decades, violating international law and human rights.
According to Hmyene, mercenaries hired by the Polisario are turning these camps into open-air prisons, military barracks, and recruitment centers for children and women. She concluded by urging the international community to intervene to prevent this cruelty from continuing.
