Rabat – Mohammed Benchaaboun, former Minister of Economy and Administration Reform, will now serve as Morocco’s ambassador to France, the royal cabinet said.
The appointment was made during a ministerial council King Mohammed VI chaired today in the city of Fez.
The appointment is in accordance with the provisions of Article 49 of the Constitution and in line with the proposal of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, the royal cabinet added.
Benchaaboun boasts a rich experience in the banking sector. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Economy in 2018, , he served as a CEO of Morocco’s Groupe Banque Populaire since February 2008.
Born on November 12, 1961, Benchaaboun graduated from Telecom ParisTech (ENST), a public institution of higher education and engineering research in France in 1984.
He started his professional career at Alcatel Alstom Maroc as director of development strategy and management control.
He went on to become industrial director at the same company, overseeing 5 plants and 800 people for about 10 years.
Between 1996 and 1999, the former Minister of Economy held the position of director of the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
