Rabat – According to a royal decree that determines their salaries, the Head of Government in Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, will receive a net monthly salary of MAD 70,000 ($7730). His fixed salary is MAD 32,000 ($3533), which comes with a “representation allowance” of MAD 18,000 ($1987), a housing allowance of MAD 15,000 ($1656) and a furniture allowance of MAD 5,000 ($552).
As for the ministers, they receive from their appointment a bonus of MAD 10,000 ($1104) to renew their wardrobe. Their fixed salary is MAD 26,000 ($2871), to which must be added the representation allowances of MAD 14,000 ($1546), accommodation MAD 15,000( $1656) and a remuneration related to various expenses of MAD 5,000 ($552). Thus, the total monthly salary is MAD 60,000 ($6626).
State Secretaries receive a fixed salary of MAD 20,000($2208). They benefit from the same allowances, apart from their performance allowance which was fixed in their case at MAD 10,000. The total monthly salary is MAD 50,000 ($5521).
The decree adds that “the State shall undertake the expenses of water, heating and lighting. Three cars are made at the disposal of the Prime Minister, two cars are at the disposal of each of the Ministers, and one car is at the disposal of each State Secretary.”
As the former minister of Agriculture, Aziz Akhannouch decided to forgo his official salary and serve the country without the State’s remuneration.
In contrast, the typical Moroccan worker earns between $350 and $900 per month. Some take home less than $300 per month.
