Rabat – Morocco has fully vaccinated over 19,427,092 people as of Monday, October 4, while the number first dose-vaccinated people is now 22,839,037, according to the country’s health authorities.
Today, Morocco launched the administration of the third dose of vaccine, with the ministry of health projecting the continuation of the marked improvement the country’s COVID situation has seen in recent weeks.
When it launched its vaccination campaign in January of this year, Morocco’s goal was to vaccinate 80% or 33 million of its population by December.
While this sounded at the time like a lofty ambition given the global scramble for vaccines, especially the wide vaccine gulf between the Global South and developed countries, recent vaccination figures indicate Morocco is on track to exceed its initial vaccination objectives.
In the meantime, however, the country continues to record new – even if decreasing – COVID infections. Over the past 24 hours, Morocco recorded 228 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 935,560.
Morocco also recorded 16 deaths and 829 recoveries in the past 24 hours.
To date, 910,540 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Morocco, while the country’s death toll is 14,355.
There are currently 10,665 active COVID-19 cases in Morocco, including 769 people in critical conditions.
Laboratories across the country carried out 6,600 COVID-19 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing to 8,826,529 the total number of tests performed in Morocco since the outbreak in March 2020.
