Rabat – Moroccan authorities have decided today to ban travelers from South Africa from accessing Moroccan territory.
The travel ban comes at the recommendation of the Interministerial Committee for the Coordination and Monitoring of the Mechanism governing international travel during the COVID-19 health crisis.
The Moroccan committee specified in a press release that the decision is part of the necessary measures which aim to preserve Morocco’s achievements in terms of its management of the domestic COVID-19 epidemic, while responding to deteriorating public health conditions in other countries.
South Africa’s health minister announced yesterday the discovery of a new coronavirus variant that appears to be spreading rapidly in parts of the country.
Other European and Asian countries are also rushing to ban flights from the African country to prevent the spread of the new variant.

On November 25, Morocco’s government announced the suspension of regular passenger flights to and from France starting November 28.
Morocco is actively making efforts to prevent another dangerous wave of the COVID-19 virus, maintaining the state of emergency until further notice.
The government is urging unvaccinated citizens to engage in the national vaccination campaign, emphasizing that it is the only effective way to develop herd immunity to the virus.
The number of fully vaccinated people in the country has reached nearly 22,6 million people.
The number of people who received the first dose of COVID is now 24,396,364, while people who received the third dose reached 1,618,451.
