Rabat – Real Madrid are close to reaching an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Côte d’Ivoire international Yan Diomande following extended negotiations between the two clubs.

Madrid’s improved proposal is reportedly worth approximately $139 million, including around $116 million as a guaranteed fee and the remainder in performance-related additions.

The dollar conversions are based on the European Central Bank’s August 5 reference rate.

Diomande has joined Leipzig’s preseason camp in Austria while the German club’s board considers the terms of the proposed transfer, according to The Athletic.

Once an agreement is approved, the 19-year-old is expected to receive permission to travel to Spain for a medical examination.

Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer said earlier this week that reports describing the deal as completed were premature, stressing that Diomande remained under contract with the Bundesliga club.

Sky Germany subsequently reported that further negotiations had taken place as the two sides attempted to settle the transfer fee and payment structure.

Paris Saint-Germain had previously been Diomande’s preferred destination, but the European champions withdrew from negotiations after deciding that Leipzig’s financial demands were too high. Madrid then strengthened their position after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the winger.

A long-term option on the right

Diomande joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganés in July 2025 and quickly established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most productive young attackers.

He registered 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions during his first season in Germany, helping Leipzig finish third and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. His performances also earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.

Although he played mainly on the right wing, Diomande is comfortable operating on either side of the attack.

His pace, close control and ability to take on defenders would give Real Madrid a more natural wide option on the right, a position where the club has frequently used attacking midfielders out of their preferred roles.

The teenager also featured prominently for Côte d’Ivoire at the 2026 World Cup, helping the Elephants reach the knockout rounds before their campaign ended against Norway.

FIFA later included him among the African players who made a notable impact at the tournament.

Diomande remains contracted to Leipzig until June 2030. Real Madrid must therefore complete the final negotiations, secure board approval and conduct his medical before the transfer can be formally announced.
