Fez – The African Football Confederation (CAF) has posted the full map of Morocco, including the country’s southern provinces.
A few weeks before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021), the African football body shared thel list of participating countries in the African tournament on its official website, featuring an undivided map of Morocco.
CAF’s decision is another setback against Algerias, the Polisario and its supporters.
The African football body’s move comes less than a week after the Arab League’s similar decision to post a full map of Morocco, including its southern provinces.
The Arab League’s decision to stress the need that all its affiliated entities adopt an undivided map of Morocco reflects the organization’s support for the Moroccan territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.
On its website, the league also published an undivided map of Morocco within a general map showing all the state members of the organization.
Algeria, which shelters, backs, trains, and finances the Polisario Front, responded to the adoption of the full map of Morocco by the Arab League.
Frustrated by Morocco’s diplomatic gains in the Sahara dossier, Algeria claimed that the adoption of the full map by the Arab League is a “shameless lie.”
Amar Belani, whom Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune appointed as “special envoy” in charge of Western Sahara and the Maghreb countries said: “It is easy to deconstruct this shameless lie.”
Adding to a series of hostile moves against Morocco, Algeria recently decided to withdraw from the 2022 African Men’s Handball Championship.
President of Algeria’s handball federation, Habib Laban, allegedly stated that Algeria’s handball team cannot participate in an event taking place in a territory whose integrity is still a matter of dispute.
“Algeria’s participation would depend on the site of its games,” Laban announced in a statement to the local media La Gazette du Fennec earlier this year. “Algeria could withdraw from the competition if one of our games should be played in one of these cities [Laayoune and Guelmim].”
