Tanger Med Port Urges Travelers to Avoid August 25-30 Operation Marhaba Peak

Operation Marhaba

Agadir – The return phase of Operation Marhaba 2026 is approaching its busiest period, with a sharp increase in passenger traffic expected at Tanger Med Port between August 25 and 30.

Tanger Med Port has urged travelers with flexible schedules to avoid the peak period and plan their return crossings outside the busiest days to reduce waiting times and facilitate their journey.

Traffic forecasts indicate a gradual increase throughout August, followed by a particularly high level of activity between August 25 and 30. The port said travelers should ensure they have a confirmed ticket showing the exact date and time of their crossing before heading to the port.

The requirement is intended to streamline passenger checks and access procedures, guarantee boarding, and reduce congestion during periods of heavy traffic.

Passengers whose tickets do not correspond to their planned crossing, or who need to modify their booking, are advised to contact their shipping company before traveling to the port.

Travelers are therefore encouraged to verify their tickets in advance and complete any necessary changes before setting off. Arriving at or waiting near the port without a valid ticket matching the planned crossing could result in significant delays or prevent passengers from boarding.

The announcement comes as the annual summer travel operation between Morocco and Europe enters a critical phase. More than 2.1 million passengers have already crossed the Strait of Gibraltar through the five Andalusian ports participating in Operation Marhaba during its first two months, marking a 2.7% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

A total of 2,169,080 passengers crossed through the ports since the operation began on June 15. Vehicle traffic, however, declined by 1.7%, with 545,359 vehicles recorded across outbound and return crossings.

The return phase began on August 16 and will continue until September 15, with traffic expected to intensify in the coming weeks as Moroccans living abroad and other travelers who spent the summer in Morocco begin returning to Europe.
