Morocco’s government approved on December 30 the draft decree 2.21.1058 amending the decree 2.14.553 of June 18, 2015, implementing Law No. 05.12 on the organization of the tourist guide sector.
Approval of the amendment took place during the government’s meeting chaired by Morocco’s Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch.
During the meeting, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social Economy, Fatima-Zahra Ammor, presented the amendment project.
The government said in a statement that the project is part of Morocco’s regulation reforms of professional tourist guides.
The amendment is in line with the instructions of King Mohammed VI to create job opportunities for young people and allow those with experience in the tourist guide informal sector to integrate into the formal sector by valuing their expertise and skills.
The project aims to reconsider how the system can access potential guides who have field competency but lack the necessary training to be professional tourist guides.
Regional committees will analyze and compile the final list of qualified candidates who pass the professional competency exam.
The committees will have the power to judge whether or not to grant or remove an individual’s approval to be a tourist guide.
The bill aims to ensure that delegations in the tourism sector are primary managers of all processes and procedures. The amendments include the abolition of the technical advisory committee for tourist guides.
