Rabat – The assistant professor involved in sexual harassment and blackmail of students at Morocco’s National School of Business and Management (ENCG) in Oujda was suspended from all his administrative and pedagogical functions until further notice, according to the ENCG Students’ Association (ADE ENCG Oujda).
The decision came after the Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif Miraoui sent an investigative committee on December 29 to report on the ongoing sexual harassment allegations that surfaced online.
The school’s director and the committee are still investigating and listening to the concerned parties to verify the allegations.
In a statement, the students’ association urged the school to accelerate the investigation and inform the students of its outcome before exams.
Students from ENCG Oujda launched several initiatives to raise awareness about sexual harassment on school campuses, with activities to support victims and encourage them to break the silence.
Students held a second protest yesterday, urging the administration to take the necessary measures to curb sexual harassment and sextortion.
The latest ‘sex for grades’ case broke at ENCG Oujda on December 27 after anonymous testimonies relayed on social media platforms revealing explicit sexual demands made by the assistant professor to several students over the years.
The school has since created a phone number and an email where victims can report their sexual harassment experiences.
Nobody knows how prevalent the sexual demands are in Moroccan universities as victims fail to report the harassment over fears of social shaming.
