Hospitalizations Increase, 22 Die Due to COVID-19 in Morocco in Past 24 Hours

Rabat – Twenty-two people died due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced today. 

The ongoing COVID-19 wave that is breaking records across the globe is again impacting Morocco, with hospitalizations on the rise. The number of intensive care beds needed to care for COVID-19 patients has risen from 2.7% to 10.7% since the beginning of the month. 

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase. In the past 24 hours, the North African country recorded 9,061 new cases. The alarming numbers continue to be near the country’s all-time highest recorded daily count, which stands at 12,039 new daily cases on August 6 of last year.

The number of active cases jumped to 66,908, including 562 patients in critical condition.

In the past 24 hours, the number of recoveries reached 5,313..

Since March 2020, Morocco reported 1,078,002 cases, including 996,047 recoveries, and 15,047 deaths.

The national fatality and recovery rate currently stands at 1.4% and 92.4%, respectively.

The Casablanca-Settat region reported the majority of cases in the past 24 hours (2,540 cases, 12 deaths), followed by Rabat-Sale Kenitra (2,133 cases, two deaths),  Marrakech-Safi (945 cases, two deaths), Fez-Meknes (943 cases, two deaths),  Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima (842 cases), Souss-Massa (665 cases, two deaths), Beni Mellal Khenifra (333 cases), and the Oriental (227 cases).

Draa Tafilalet reported 167 cases, followed by Laayoune Sakia El Hamra (109 cases, one death), Guelmim-Oued Noun (108 cases, one death), Dakhla Oued Eddahab (49 cases).
