Morocco’s Atlas Lions will play against Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoffs round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The draw to determine the African playoff games for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was held today in Douala, Cameroon.
Ten African teams are vying for the continent’s five spots at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The ten qualified teams were separated into two groups according to the official FIFA ranking released on November 19, 2021.
The play-off games, which are scheduled between March 24 and 29, will be held on a home-and-away basis, with the first leg being scheduled at the home of the lower-ranked teams.
The basket of the five highest-ranked teams included Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Nigeria, while that of the lower-ranked nations were Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and DR Congo.
Meanwhile, lower-ranked Basket included Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and DR Congo.
The playoffs draw resulted in the following:
Morocco vs Democratic Republic of Congo
Algeria vs Cameroon
Nigeria vs Ghana
Egypt vs Senegal
Mali vs Tunisia
When Morocco reached the Round of 16 in 1986, they became the first African team to advance past the group stage.
The Atlas Lions qualified for the World Cup five times: 1970, 1986, 1994, 1998 and 2018.
Morocco played 16 matches in all their World Cup games, winning two, drawing five, and losing nine. In the process, they scored 14 goals and surrendered 22.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions have proven a tough team in the previous round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers, losing no game.
In these teams, only Mali has never been in a World Cup final before, with DR Congo having previously competed as Zaire in 1974.
