Rabat – Morocco’s House of Councilors approved nine bills related to bilateral and multilateral agreements during the January 18 plenary session.
Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported that Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita presented the bills and noted that the agreements aim to expand and diversify Morocco’s network of partners.
The minister stated that the bills covered two bilateral agreements with Chad and Serbia, two multilateral cooperation agreements, and five regional agreements signed with the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the African Union.
At the bilateral level, the House of Councilors adopted bill 12-21 on cooperation in the fields of energy and mining with Chad and bill 45-21 on military cooperation with Serbia.
At the multilateral level, councilors approved bill 47-21 ratifying the Singapore Convention on Mediation and bill 21-21 on the 1988 Protocol of the International Convention on Load Lines.
At the regional level, the House passed three laws related to the African Union accords including bill 49-21 on African Youth Charter, bill 52-21 on the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, and bill 62-20 on the Abidjan Convention on the Cooperation in the Protection, Management, and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Atlantic Coast of West, Central, and Southern Africa.
Bill 62-20 also covered 2011 amendments on the convention and its additional protocols.
Additionally, councilors adopted bill 42-21 on the Liberalization of Trade in Services Among Arab Countries and bill 25-21 on the Statute of the Islamic Organization for Food Security.
To reinforce South-South cooperation, Morocco continues to identify potential areas for partnerships with African and Arab countries.
Last week alone, Bourita held two meetings with Mauritius and Burkinabe Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Alan Ganoo and Hadizatou Rosine Sori-Coulibaly. In the videoconferences, Bourita and his counterparts renewed their interests in cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and international levels in issues of mutual interest such as renewable energy and security.
