Rabat –  Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid reported on the latest activities of his ministry during the House of Representatives’ oral questions session on January 17.

Bensaid reported that his ministry took different measures to support the cultural sector in Morocco.

Within 100 days, the ministry opened 150 showrooms, invested in 60 plays that were broadcast on state-owned channel SNRT, and initiated the renovation of youth and cultural centers across the country by providing them with spaces dedicated to music, gaming, and artistic performances.

To preserve and promote Moroccan heritage, the ministry continues to promote, protect, and rehabilitate historical monuments in partnership with UNESCO and local actors. Additionally, the ministry introduced LABEL MAROC to promote tangible and intangible Moroccan heritage.

Bensaid added that the ministry launched projects for the benefit of youth including the creation of 100 youth centers in 2022 in partnership with the Royal College, the establishment of proximity libraries across the country, and enhancing opportunities for Moroccan writers and publishers.

Regarding the film industry, the minister commented that “the government is currently working on the advancement of the film industry, and we are working to provide 150 exhibition halls, nationwide, to enable directors, producers and investors to make wider use of the film industry market.”

“We are working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to pass from 20% to 30% [budget] to support public productions, a decision that will be reflected in foreign investment and will open a number of job positions,” he added.

Aiming to ensure the success of these projects, the ministry seeks to work closely with local authorities and civil societies to develop a unified strategy for the implementation of cultural and artistic activities in Morocco.
