Rabat – The American city of Dallas, a business and cultural hub in the state of Texas, recently celebrated the “Moroccan culture of sharing, tolerance and living together” as well as  “the richness of the Moroccan artistic heritage,” Moroccan state media agency MAP reported today.

Organized as part of the growing cultural and diplomatic relations between Morocco and the US, the Dallas event brought together a diverse community of Moroccans and Arabs residing in Texas and neighboring states, as well as Americans interested in the North African country’s culture, history, and thriving business landscape.

Prominent Moroccan singers Abderrahim Souiri and Younes Rbati also took part in the event, with their respective performances adding another collective joy and celebration layer to the “friendly atmosphere” of the culture-, art-, and living together-themed event, MAP reported.

Organizers of the event paid a “moving tribute” to Moroccan philanthropist and actress Zohra Georgette Elkaim Moyal, the report noted, describing the event’s celebration of the Moroccan actress as “a sign of recognition to Moroccans around the world.”

Of Moyal’s origins story, MAP stressed, “This Moroccan Jew who was born in Tiznit and has spent a good part of her life in New York, stands out for her commitment to her community and the strengthening of Moroccan-American ties.”

Throughout the event, guests spoke of the deepening ties between the US and Morocco, pointing to the US-brokered diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Israel as part and parcel of the wide-ranging connections between Rabat and Washington.

For organizers of the Dallas event, the US-brokered Morocco-Israel rapprochement did not just showcase Morocco’s commitment to regional peace, interfaith dialogue, cultural diversity, and tolerance. It also signaled Morocco’s readiness to play a role in the building of a MENA that is committed to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, and values openness to difference and constructive diplomacy.
