Rabat – Under the instructions of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia has decided to extend the validity of final exit visas for Moroccans from the period of December 9, 2021 to February 7, 2022 until February 14.

“This extension, issued by the minister of finance, comes within the framework of the continuous efforts taken by the Saudi government to deal with the effects and repercussions of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” the Saudi General Directorate of Passports announced.

Saudi news agency SPA said the extension operation will take place “electronically” in cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s National information Center.

The news comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the Gulf kingdom.

On Saturday, Saudi Arabia recorded  1,726 new cases and two deaths in 24 hours, while the country’s total number of cases stood at over 727,251.

As a result, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has put Saudi Arabia under level 4 of its COVID travel guidelines, indicating that COVID-19 risk in the Gulf country is very high.

The CDC notably urged passengers to avoid travel to Saudi Arabia, warning: “If you must travel to Saudi Arabia, make sure you are vaccinated and up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines before travel.”

CDC further warned that even if Saudi Arabia-bound passengers are vaccinated, they “may still be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19.”
