Rabat – Telecommunication equipment giant Nexans announced on January 31 the appointment of Selma Alami as General Director in charge of the company’s operations in Morocco.

Alami is set to replace former general director, Karim Bennis, who will be retiring after running the company for 16 years, according to a company press release.

As the new head of the telecommunication infrastructure company, Alami will oversee the continuation of the Nexans’s Africa expansion strategy enacted in 2017.

Alami started her career with Nexans Maroc as a manager in 2013. Her promotion to general director attests to the company’s internal promotion philosophy of favoring diversity and competence, Bennis commented following the announcement of Alami’s appointment.

In the same company statement, the new Nexans head director stressed her commitment to advancing the Moroccan group’s ambition of extending its African outreach and meeting emerging challenges.

“Our group is committed to facing contemporary challenges,” Alami said. “We aim to continue our positive progress, creating value and underpin our clients’ competitiveness.”

Alami’s career with Nexans started within Nexans’ subsidiary Sirmel, a digital infrastructure company. She was promoted to the position of CEO of the group’s operations in the Middle East and Africa region.

Alami climbed the corporate ladder higher in 2018, landing the position of general manager of Sirmel. Before her promotion to director, Alami filled the position of CEO of Nexans Morocco.

Nexans is on an expansion spree in the North African country. In 2021, the group inaugurated a new fiber optics manufacturing plant. The event was chaired by Moulay Hafid Elalamy, former Minister of Industry, Trade, and New Technologies.

In addition to boosting Nexans’ production capacity, the plant expanded the group’s offer in the North African market. The newly established plant also exports telecommunication accessories to European countries.
