Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Achraf Hakimi is on Real Madrid’s radar for a potential summer transfer, according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central.
Real Madrid is considering re-signing the Moroccan right-back, four years after he left the Meringues.
Before playing for Real Madrid’s first team half a decade ago, Hakimi spent most of his formative years at its academy, Real Madrid Castilla. The 23-year-old eventually rose to prominence away from Real Madrid, first with Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan, then with Inter Milan last season.
Real Madrid appears to have again expressed interest in Hakimi following his stunning development, but also to cover the vacuum left in the team due to Dani Carvajal’s serious injuries and the decline in performances of Lucas Vázquez, according to Defensa Central.
With his transfer to PSG last summer, the Moroccan international has developed remarkably, claiming a place for himself at Europe’s top clubs. The PSG right-back has so far contributed three goals and three assists in 29 appearances this season.
Due to the competitiveness between PSG and Real Madrid, the latter angling for Kylian Mbappe, PSG may make it hard for Los Blancos to re-sign Hakimi.
Speaking to Marca ahead of the first leg between PSG and Real Madrid, Hakimi said that Los Blancos “didn’t want to bet on [him] as much as other clubs.”
Achraf Hakimi is likely to miss PSG’s second leg game of Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid as part of the Champions League on March 9 due to a thigh injury.
Hakimi was absent last Saturday in the match against Saint-Etienne, with French outlet Le Parisien reporting his absence from PSG’s training sessions as well.
Morocco’s national team must be concerned as well over Hakimi’s injury, fearing it could be serious enough to keep him out of the World Cup playoffs against the Democratic Republic of Congo later this month.
