Rabat – Following the 8th session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian High Joint Commission of senior officials, ministerial representatives from both countries lauded the notable development of positive relations between their countries in recent years.
Regarding the outcome of the 8th session, which was held on March 9-11 in Rabat, ministerial representatives discussed new ways to strengthen Morocco-Mauritania bilateral cooperation and expand the partnership at the political level.
During the meetings, Morocco and Mauritania agreed to cooperate on a range of regional and international issues of common concern, mainly the joint Arab action, the Palestinian cause, the crisis in Libya, Yemen, and Syria, as well as the Sahel and the Sahara conflicts.
Mauritanian officials lauded King Mohammed VI’s continuous efforts to defend Jerusalem as well as the humanitarian and socio-economic projects of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
They also highlighted King Mohammed VI’s leading role in establishing sustainable development on the African continent and strengthening the values of peace, security, and stability in the region.
Mauritanian representatives further underlined Morocco’s financial contribution to support the investment climate in the Group of Five for the Sahel (G5 Sahel), which consists of Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger.
On Morocco’s new development model, they noted its pivotal role in boosting the country’s economy, while also reiterating the role of the North African country in resolving the Libyan crisis.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan officials lauded Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazwani’s policy of establishing a comprehensive social protection system aimed at boosting the country’s development process and its commitment in the Sahel group.
Regarding sectoral cooperation, the committee spoke on cooperation in economic, cultural, educational, and technical areas, while examining ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Moroccan and Mauritanian representatives expressed their willingness to further strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, industry and tourism, housing, environment and sustainable development, security, health, culture, agriculture and fishing, and vocational training.
