Rabat – The Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region hosted another working session this week to zoom in on the area’s investment and business opportunities.
The meeting aimed to discuss reinvigorating the region’s economy and attracting business investors. It was organized by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab agency in charge of promoting the region as a dynamic and lucrative investment hub.
At the opening of the meeting, governor of the province of Aousserd Abderrahman El Jaouhari said that the region is on the “way to becoming a major economic hub in the very short term.”
He attributed the shift into the major projects in Dakhla, including Dakhla Atlantic Port .
“Such prospects are accompanied by the development of all infrastructures, means of transport and diplomatic ties, as well as numerous socio-economic initiatives,” he said.
El Khattat Yanja, President of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab Regional Council, said the Dakhla meeting constitutes a “lever for the promotion of the region and its socio-economic development.”
The meeting also aimed to give “more visibility to economic actors and offer the opportunity to discuss territorial development in all productive sectors such as fishing, agriculture, tourism, renewable energies, trade, and logistics,” Yanja added.
Also participating in the meeting was the Consul General of Senegal in Dakhla, Babou Sene.
During his speech, Sene echoed Jaouahri and Yanja’s remarks about the southern Moroccan region being on the way to positioning itself as a real economic hub facing the Atlantic and sub-Saharan Africa.
The Senegalese representative also recalled the agreements signed with countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), saying: “This sub-regional integration space will enable the kingdom to broaden and strengthen its partnership with the other sub-regional economic communities.”
He concluded by calling on other consul generals operating in the region to develop “win-win” economic and commercial relations with Morocco, particularly with the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
Jacques Crtoza, the director general of the “promotion” agency of Dakhla, emphasized that the goal of the event was to initiate a debate on the subject of the revival of investments in the southern Moroccan city.
He said that the quality of such debates can help promote the region’s business assets and demonstrate that it has all the necessary conditions to become an economic hub.
