Rabat – The Marrakech Film Festival Foundation (FIFM) announced today, March 15, the return of the 19th international film festival in Morocco’s ochre city, which will be held from November 11-19, 2022.

Initially scheduled for 2020, the film festival was postponed for two years due to the global health crisis.

In a press release, the FIFM noted that the festival will be held while cautiously taking into account the evolution of the epidemiological situation in Morocco and worldwide.

Established by King Mohammed VI in 2001, the festival is one of the largest events devoted to Moroccan cinema, with a vision of internationally promoting the North African country’s film industry.

The 2019 international film festival closed with the awarding of the Etoile d’Or award to “Valley of Souls” by Colombian film director Nicolas Rincon Gille. The jury was  headed by Scottish actress Tilda Swinton.

Meanwhile, during the two years marked by the global health crisis, the foundation focused on conducting the “industry and talent development” program to continue its commitment to supporting the cinema industry in Morocco and beyond.

As part of its talent development initiative, the FIFM held the third and the fourth edition of the Atlas Workshops online in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Launched in 2018 with Netflix as a partner, the program supported and accompanied over 88 artistic projects and films, several of which have been awarded in prestigious festivals internationally.
