The Alliance of Francophone Employers (APF) has elected the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) as secretary-general and member of its executive board.
The newly created alliance celebrated its official inaugural signing ceremony of the alliance’s statutes with the presidents of the employers’ unions of 25 countries.
Vice-President of the CGEM Mehdi Tazi participated in the signing ceremony in Tunisia.
The APF aims to accelerate the economic flows between companies. The organization was created by members of the private sector within the participating countries.
Head of the Tunisian Government Najla Bouden chaired the ceremony and stressed that this new economic partnership framework “is all the more necessary as our francophone area in the north as well as in the south is facing major challenges.”
Bouden highlighted the need for “more convergence and solidarity against the backdrop of the health crisis, the conflict in Ukraine, and their socio-economic ramifications.”
The new employers’ alliance strives to coordinate activities of most representative professional organizations in each of the member countries and regions, establishing shared diagnoses and bringing forward common proposals in favor of shared and sustainable economic growth.
The alliance’s creation comes six months after the first Francophone REF was held in August 2021 in Paris.
A delegation of more than 25 Moroccan business leaders from different sectors, led by CGEM President Chakib Alj attended this event.
The alliance’s inaugural meeting allowed for the launch of seven working groups and the approval of their mission and output. CGEM’s Alj co-chaired the “Investment facilitation and co-investment” group, along with the Madagascar Business Group.
With a total of 31 employers, the alliance reflects a commitment to developing a tangible French-language economy based on business.
The APF’s presidency has been entrusted to the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF) for a two-year term
The next meeting of the alliance is scheduled to take place in Abidjan in October with a permanent organization.
