Rabat – Israir airline will operate two weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Marrakech from April as part of its summer flight schedule, Morocco’s National Tourist Office (ONMT) said on Wednesday.

The ONMT and Israir have signed an agreement to operate the flights between Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport and Marrakech-Menara airport between April and October 2022.

The agreement aims to further boost direct routes between Morocco and Israel to promote tourism in both countries.

Each flight will have 8,500 seats. Details about the date and time of the flights have yet to be revealed.

In a press release, the ONMT said it aims to promote Morocco as a travel destination, as well as a place for business opportunities.

During the 28th International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) in Tel Aviv, ONMT CEO Ebel El Fakir and the Israeli businessman and CEO of Israir airline Rami Levi discussed ways to expand direct flights and promote the two countries’ tourism assets.

Quoted in the statement, El Fakir said Israir airline is one of the most important tourism players in Israel.

El Fakir stressed that through the partnership, “we will quickly attract a large number of customers from this strategic market while ensuring a sustainable growth for years to come.”

Representatives from Moroccan holiday resorts, hotels, travel agencies as well as the national carrier Royal Air Maroc attended the IMTM to promote the country’s tourism offers.

Morocco and Israel have witnessed significant cooperation in different sectors since the re-establishment of their diplomatic ties in December 2020.

The ONMT expects 200,000 Israeli tourists to visit the North African country in 2022.

Royal Air Maroc inaugurated on March 13 its first direct flight linking Casablanca to Tel Aviv.

Royal Air Maroc’s flights are scheduled to depart from Casablanca on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 23:55 (Morocco time) with arrival in Tel Aviv at 06:15 (local time).

Meanwhile, flights from Tel Aviv are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with take-off at 07:15 (local time) and arrival in Casablanca at 12:10 (Morocco time).

Israel is also set to boost trade cooperation, aiming to increase the volume of bilateral trade with Morocco to $500 million, up from the current $130 million.
