Rabat – The  Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) expects 200,000 Israeli tourists to visit Morocco in 2022, according to the director-general of the body Adel El Fakir.

Director-General of the ONMT El Fakir made the comments as part of the  28th International Mediterranean Tourism Market (IMTM) in a press release on Tuesday

El Fakir headed today the Moroccan delegation of tourism operators at Israel’s largest tourism sector gathering to promote holidays to the North African country.

The Israeli tourism market is strategic to Morocco,  the ONMT said in the press release, adding that 8 million Israelis travel out of the country each year.

Moroccans living in Israel can return to their country of origin onboard Royal Air Maroc and Israir airplanes.

ONMT participated in the expo to promote the country’s touristic offers as well as attract Israeli tourists to Morocco. It also adverts around Tel Aviv to promote the country as a tourist destination.

The expected exponential increase in Israeli arrivals results from the normalization of Morocco-Israeli diplomatic and economic relations, said El Fakir.

“Today, we are setting up the milestones for a lasting relationship with all of the Israeli travel operators, by entering into partnership agreements, and launching a major communication and promotion campaign,” he explained.

Representatives from more than 25 Moroccan holiday resorts, hotels, and travel agencies, as well as the national carrier Royal Air Maroc, are all attending the conference. set to promote the country’s tourism at the two-day expo.

The Moroccan delegation includes the president of the National Confederation of Tourism, Hamid Bentahar, and the president of the National Federation of the Hotel Industry Lahcen Zelmat. Officials from the Regional Councils of Tourism (CRT) also joined El Fakir in Tel Aviv.

Earlier this month, ONMT announced its collaboration with Israeli TV animator Yarden Harel “to boost the touristic image of Morocco” before contributing to the organization of the first digital Morocco-Israel Tourism Investment Summit. The forum called for cooperation and an increase in investment in the country’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
