Rabat – Lebanese Ambassador to Morocco Ziad Atallah reiterated his country’s  support for Morocco’s territorial integrity in a meeting with Naama Mayara, speaker of the House of Councilors.

“My talks with Mayara focused on Moroccan-Lebanese relations, as well as support for Morocco’s territorial integrity,” said the diplomat in a statement.

During the Friday meeting, the two officials spoke about means to further strengthen ties between the two countries, with Mayara highlighting the importance of cooperation between the Moroccan and Lebanese legislative institutions.

Mayara also  noted the decades-long relations between Morocco and Lebanon in various fields including politics and culture.

The Moroccan parliamentarian highlighted the potential for cooperation and investment between the countries, to boost trade.

Ambassador Atallah and Mayara pledged to further reinforce parliamentary cooperation to benefit shared interests, and explore ways to expand strategic partnerships.

Meanwhile, Atallah said that Lebanon’s economic actors and investors have a great interest in Morocco because the North African country has a lot to offer as an investment hub and a gateway to the African continent.

The two officials also pledged to boost exchange visits and expertise to strengthen ties between the two nations and their citizens.

In July 2021, Lebanon’s former Deputy Prime Minister Zina Aker reaffirmed her country’s support for Moroccan sovereignty and reiterated its “rejection of seperatist states” in the Western Sahara region.

Morocco was also one of the first among countries to send aid to Lebanon following the explosion in Beirut on August 4, 2020.

The North African country supported Lebanon during its humanitarian crisis and delivered several batches of aid to Beirut in 2021, including 90 tons of food, to assist the country in its efforts to support Lebanese citizens during the pandemic.
