Rabat – As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Morocco continues to assure consumers of food security said Ouadie Madih, President of the National Federation of Consumer Associations (FNAC).
Madiha noted that consumers have not filed complaints about the scarcity of products, adding that FNAC works on countering harmful practices in the national market, such as discouraging contraband.
He emphasized the necessity of countering illegal sales of certain products, assuring Moroccans that the national market will be well-organized during Ramadan.
Consumer protection authorities monitor the market situation, including FNAC’s 21 consumer offices across the country that address requests and complaints.
“To facilitate the reporting of professionals who do not respect the law, FNAC has dedicated a number to customers, 05-22-24-47-48,” added Madih.
In preparation for increasing food demand during Ramadan, Morocco’s Head of Government led a meeting on March 15, setting a plan to address supporting essential foods’ supply and prices amid rising global prices of fuel and wheat due to the ongoing Ukrainian war.

The National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) will monitor the quality of food, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests will guarantee the supply of high-consumption foods such as tomatoes, flours, mear, dates, and eggs.
Notably, Morocco decided to reduce tomato exports to Europe to meet local demand and prevent rising prices ahead of April as well as to alleviate the surge in food prices resulting from drought.
The decision is expected to cut tomato prices from an average of MAD 11 ($1.12) to under MAD 5 ($0.51).
As for animal products and cereals, the supply of these products is enough to meet the needs of Moroccan consumers and markets, noted the ministry of agriculture.
The stable supply of food with affordable prices as well as the continuous monitoring of the market by concerned departments reflect the readiness of Morocco to meet consumers’ demands throughout Ramadan.
