The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and American online travel company TripAdvisor signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday, March 15, in Rabat.
A statement from ONMT said the agreement aims to restore Morocco’s “market share among the most recommended Mediterranean destinations on TripAdvisor.”
ONMT’s General Director Adel El Fakir said the main objective of the agreement with TripAdvisor is to generate “turnover for Moroccan tourist operators.”
The deal also seeks to promote Morocco’s tourism assets in key global markets, including in the US and Israel.
Through the agreement, ONMT aims to promote Moroccan destinations and experiences to 500 million travelers in 49 international markets.
TripAdvisor generated interest from more than a half million visitors to Morocco in the pre-pandemic period, according to the ONMT.
Justin Reid, Director of destination marketing, travel and Media, Europe, Middle East and Africa at TripAdvisor commented on the partnership agreement, saying Morocco has “always offered a unique experience to our loyal base of travelers.”
“We are convinced that 2022 will be a great year of recovery from Morocco and TripAdvisor is delighted to be a major partner in this process,” he said.
Reid emphasized that TripAdvisor will strengthen Morocco’s brand presence across its platforms.
ONMT said the partnership seeks to increase travel intentions to Morocco among travelers for the new air routes that have been set up by the ONMT with its partner airlines.
The tourism office concluded the statement vowing to continue to strengthen its strategy to win back the “largest travel influencers in the world.”
Like many countries across the world, Morocco’s tourism sector has been experiencing repercussions due to travel restrictions because of COVID-19.
Morocco’s ONMT has been campaigning to revive the tourism sector after the reopening of airspace in February.
ONMT also launched programs to promote domestic tourism.
