The holy month of Ramadan is one of the sacred months in Islam. It is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar, arriving after Shaban and before Dhul Qadah.

During Ramadan, Muslims across the world fast from dawn until sunset. They are not allowed to eat, drink, smoke, nor indulge in any sexual activities until sunset.

Ramadan in Islam is considered a month of worship and getting closer to God. Muslims across the world engage in religious activities such as Zakat, Taraweeh, and fasting.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of islam. It is performed by the head of the family, on behalf of his family members, by offering a monetary amount or its equivalent of food to less fortunate people as an act of solidarity in Islam.

Taraweeh are additional evening prayers that Mulsims perform after the Isha prayers. The pandemic prevented muslims in 2020 from performing these prayers in mosques.

Fasting in Ramadan is performed when Muslims abstain from eating food, drinking, smoking, or engaging in sexual activities from sunrise until sunset. It is also one of the five pillars of Islam. In order to prepare for fasting the majority of the day, Muslims must eat the Suhoor (a meal before sunrise), and have a strong will.
