Rabat – On Wednesday, March 2, hundreds of contractual teachers protested in the streets of Rabat against temporary contracts.
The protests turned into clashes with local authorities, who were dispatched to disperse the demonstration.
The National Coordination of Contractual Teachers in Morocco (CNPCC) called on all contractual teachers to participate in a one-week protest. The demonstrations started on February 28 running until March 6.
The protest will also include a three-day march that started on Wednesday, March 2.
Hundreds of contractual teachers from all over Morocco went on strike and headed towards the capital city Rabat for the three-day March, renewing their calls for their integration into public sector employment.
Teachers demand an improvement of their labor conditions .
The organization started its demonstration in front of the Ministry of Education’s headquarters, with teachers chanting slogans and protesting against the discrimination they face as contractual teachers.
As protesting teachers started their march towards parliament, clashes erupted after police and auxiliary forces intervened, diverting them back to the headquarters of the Ministry of Education.

The CNPCC denounced, on their official Facebook page, the use of police force against protestors, and called for teachers to continue the fight by sharing details about Thursday, March 3’s march.
Contractual teachers started protesting after their demands to be engaged in the public sector were not met.
The government has hired teachers under annually renewable contracts every year since 2016.To fill the need for more teachers while managing heavy public debts, the government hired the teachers through regional academies.
