Rabat – Real Madrid have completed the signing of Côte d’Ivoire international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, securing one of Europe’s most highly rated young attackers on a contract running until June 30, 2033.
The Spanish club officially confirmed the agreement on Thursday but did not disclose the transfer fee. Reports indicate that Madrid will pay approximately $144 million upfront, with a further $17 million available in performance-related bonuses, taking the overall package to around $162 million.
If all bonuses are triggered, the 19-year-old could become the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history, surpassing the reported package agreed with Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in 2023.
“Moving to Real Madrid is a childhood dream come true for me,” Diomande said following confirmation of the transfer. He also thanked Leipzig’s management for allowing the move despite his previous contract running until 2030.
Diomande joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganés in the summer of 2025 and needed only one season in Germany to establish himself as one of the Bundesliga’s leading young players.
He scored 12 goals and nine assists in the league as Leipzig finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League. His pace, direct dribbling and ability to attack with either foot attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool before Madrid emerged as his preferred destination.
Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer said the winger had impressed the club from his first day through his confidence, willingness to learn and courage in possession.
Schäfer added that Diomande’s development demonstrated Leipzig’s ability to provide young players with a platform to progress at the highest level.
Leganés are also expected to receive a percentage of the transfer fee under the terms of the agreement that took Diomande to Germany last year.
A solution on Madrid’s right wing
Diomande primarily operated from the right for Leipzig but is also comfortable playing on the opposite flank. His versatility gives Madrid a natural wide attacker capable of stretching defenses, beating opponents in one-on-one situations and creating chances from either side.
He also represented Côte d’Ivoire at the 2026 World Cup, featuring as the Elephants reached the knockout stage.
His arrival continues Madrid’s extensive summer recruitment under José Mourinho, following the additions of Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella.
Diomande will now join Mourinho’s squad for preseason preparations as he attempts to translate his rapid rise in Germany into a prominent role at the Santiago Bernabéu.
