Moroccan police arrested on Wednesday an American man wanted in the US for sexual assault of a minor.
Police arrested the 52-year-old suspect in Tangier as part of bilateral cooperation between Moroccan security services and their American counterparts, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.
Security services made the arrest thanks to “precise” data supplied by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), DGSN statement added.
According to preliminary findings from the investigation, the US citizen sexually assaulted a minor in the US prior to fleeing his country.
Police put the suspect in custody pending the extradition procedure.
DGSN said it informed US authorities of the arrest in accordance with the conventions and legal provisions relating thereto.
The operation is part of Morocco’s efforts to arrest all suspects who are the subject to an international wanted notice for cases of transnational crime, the DGSN concluded.
