Rabat – Famous Moroccan surgeon El Hassan Tazi has responded to accusations of his alleged involvement in a case of healthcare fraud on social media.
On April 3, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) published a communique about the arrest of eight suspects for their alleged involvement in the fraud.
Although the communique did not reveal the suspects’ identity, several local news outlets linked Tazi, his wife, and other healthcare staff from his private clinic to the case.
But the surgeon took to social media to rebuke the claims.
“Hear from me, not about me. Rumors are created by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots,” Tazi said on an Instagram post a few hours after the allegations, with his picture next to a quote.
The picture featured a Quran verse: “As for those who believe and do good deeds—We will not waste the reward of those who work righteousness,”(Surah al-Kahf 18:30).
In the caption, Tazi wrote another Quran verse, “O you who believe! If a sinner comes to you with any news, investigate, lest you harm some people out of ignorance, and you become regretful for what you have done,” (Surah al-Hujurat 49:6)

Surgeon Tazi is best known for his charitable activities such as helping destitute people who cannot afford surgery costs.
He has also been on several TV programs where he helped people with burn scars and fat loss, among other health problems.
DGSN noted on Sunday that eight health workers appeared at the Court of Appeal in Casablanca for a preliminary hearing for their alleged involvement in creating a criminal network aimed at collecting money from benefactors.
The suspects were alleging that the money from donors would be used to pay the hospitalization costs for destitute patients treated in a private clinic, where the majority of the defendants work.
But the majority of the suspects are accused of fraudulently inflating the bills to extract large amounts of money.
DGSN said the suspects were subjected to judicial investigation before being brought before the court.
Five of the suspects are in custody ahead of trial, while two have been temporarily released pending the final verdict.
Morocco World News (MWN) contacted Tazi’s clinic for comment. The clinic did not respond to the request at the time the article was written.
