Rabat – Radio France International (RFI) has announced the 12 finalists for the Marc-Vivien Foe award 2022, four of whom are players from the Moroccan national football team.

The four Atlas Lions who have been nominated are Achraf Hakimi, Yunis Abdelhamid, Nayef Aguerd, and Soufian Boufal.

The Prix Marc-Vivien Foe is an award that honors the best African footballers who represented their team in the French Football Championship (Ligue 1) during the 2021-2022 season.

The award bears the name of the late Cameroonian football professional Marc-Vivien Foé, who played as a defensive midfielder for the Cameroon national team.

Congolese football player Gael Kakuta was the winner of last year’s Marc-Vivien Foe Award.

RFI and France 24 will reveal the winner of the award on May 16.

Representing the Paris Saint-Germain club, Hakimi is one of the most expensive African football players, according to FIFA Global Transfer Report.

The former Real Madrid star was signed to the French club for €60 million (MAD 636 million).

Atlas lion Boufal plays as an attacking midfielder for the Angers SCO club in Ligue 1.

Following a first season disrupted by injuries and COVID-19, Boufal is now performing well with his current club.

Abdelhamid Yunis plays as a defender and captain of the Stade de Reims club. He is the club’s oldest player in terms of age (34 years old) and duration (present since 2017).

Nayef Aguerd is another prominent Moroccan professional footballer. The 25-year-old began his professional career with Moroccan Fath Union Sport (FUS) club in 2014.

Aguerd plays as a defender for Stade Rennais FB club.

The eight other finalists are Guinean Mohamed Bayo from (Clermont Foot 63 club), Ivorian Seko Fofana (RC Lens), Senegal Idrissa Gana Gueye (Paris Saint-Germain), Tunisian Wahbi Khazri (AS Saint-Etienne), Gabonian Mario Lemina (OGC Nice), Nigerian Moses Simon (FC Nantes), Cameronian Karl Toko-Ekambi (Olumpique Lyonnais), Hamari Traore from Mali (Stade Rennais FC).
