Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI launched today the 23th edition of the national solidarity campaign “Ramadan 1443” to support 3 million Moroccans through the holy month of Ramadan.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity initiated the operation with the financial support of the Ministries of Interior and Islamic Affairs, and the beneficiaries are primarily elderlies, widows, and people with special needs.

With a budget of MAD 103 million ($10.6 million), Ramadan 1443 operation is expected to benefit nearly 3 million Moroccans including 600,000 households, 77% of whom reside in rural areas.

“It is a moment of solidarity which reflects the Sovereign’s solicitude for the vulnerable groups,” said the foundation’s director of communication, Sanae Dardikh.

Mohammed V Foundation has mobilized thousands of social workers and volunteers in more than 1,800 distribution points across the country.

The social services of the Royal Armed Forces and local authorities are assisting the foundation to ensure the smooth running of the solidarity operation.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) also confirmed their participation in the campaign to assess the quality of the food products distributed.

Mohammed V Foundation launched the Ramadan food distribution campaign in 1998. Since then the foundation has mobilized more than MAD 1.5 billion for the benefit of families in vulnerable situations.

The annual number of beneficiaries reached 600,000 households in 2020, marking a significant increase from 34,100 in 1998.

The annual campaign reflects the spirit of sharing and solidarity that Ramadan calls for.
