Rabat – Morocco and Serbia will mark 65 years of diplomatic relations by hosting two joint cultural exhibitions.

Serbian Ambassador in Morocco, Ivan Bauer, on Tuesday signed an agreement to organize the events with the president of Morocco’s National Museums Foundation (FNM), Mehdi Qotbi.

The “2 faces of the Serbian kilim” exhibition will be hosted at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade and “The ways of the Roman Emperors” at the Archaeological Institute in Rabat.

Moroccan and Serbian officials initiated the 65th-anniversary celebrations in March, expressing a shared interest in advancing diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation between their countries.

They further agreed to work jointly to develop a rich program of cultural and economic events, marked by the organization of art expositions and economic and artisanal forums.

On March 1, Ambassador Belhaj inaugurated a two-month-long Moroccan stamp exhibition with the bridges of the Serbian capital and the headquarters of Posta Serbia lit up at night with the colors of Moroccan flags – red and green.

Morocco’s Barid Al-Maghrib Group and Posta Serbia then teamed up to launch two special postage stamps. The stamps depict important infrastructural symbols in Morocco and Serbia, namely Africa’s longest bridge, Mohammed VI bridge, and Serbia’s renowned international rail corridor, Rail Bridge.

The launch of the celebration came around nine months after Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic visited Morocco in a bid to boost bilateral ties.

In May, Selakovic signed with Moroccan officials a memorandum of understanding on political consultations as well as three bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, culture, higher education and research, media, as well as youth and sports.

“Morocco is a friend of the Republic of Serbia with whom we share common values and interests,” the Serbian minister said during his visit, noting that “the Republic of Serbia considers the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, under Morocco’s Sovereignty, as a serious and credible solution.”.
