Fez – In celebration of World Immunization Week, Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced on Monday the organization of the national vaccination week from April 25 to April 30.
Organized under the theme “vaccination, a hope for life,” the week-long nationwide event aims to raise awareness of the value of vaccines as a safe and effective way to protect one’s health.
The immunization week is also an opportunity to engage the public in vaccinations with the doses required for effective protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.
“Vaccines are essential to the prevention and control of infectious disease outbreaks and are the guarantors of global health security as evidenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, when vaccination stood out as a major key to limit, if not control, the outbreak thus allowing a gradual return to normal life,” the ministry said in a statement.
Morocco’s COVID-19 vaccination figures have placed it among the leading African countries to have reached the UN’s goal of vaccinating at least 40% of their populations.

The minister further noted that Morocco has made great improvements in vaccinating against diseases that were responsible for a heavy morbidity and mortality burden in children under 5 years old.
The efforts made within the framework of the National Immunization Program have led to achieving a 95% immunization rate against targeted diseases nationwide.
With the special care of King Mohammed VI and the active involvement of Princess Lalla Meryem, said the ministry’s press release, Morocco is among the leading countries committed to ensuring children’s right to access safe, effective, good quality, and free vaccines.
It added that, in terms of vaccination measures, the country follows the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Technical and Scientific Advisory Committee on Immunization.
Vaccine hesitancy is one of the major threats to public health, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared in 2019, highlighting the significance of vaccination in reducing the scourge of diseases.
