Fez – Moroccan international and Ajax Amsterdam right-back Noussair Mazraoui has made hints at a potential comeback to Morocco’s Atlas Lions after a months-long rift with head coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
Earlier in March, the Moroccan right-back took to social media to deny rumors that he will return to play with Morocco’s national football team.
In an Instagram post, Mazraoui apologized to the Moroccan football fans, indicating that he made a final decision not to represent Morocco’s Atlas Lions in the upcoming competitions.
“I have decided to not play for the national team in the upcoming matches,” he wrote.
Justifying his decision, the 24-year-old full-back cited his long-standing rift with the head coach, Halilhodzic.
“Unfortunately, the coach didn’t have time to meet and discuss the situation that was created around me as a player of el Mountakhab [the Moroccan national football team],” Mazraoui added.
Yet, it appears that the Moroccan footballer had a change of heart over this issue.
The player’s social media accounts show no trace of the aforementioned post, which presumably indicates that he may have -in a moment of contemplation- chosen to rethink his decision and send a coded message to both the national team head coach and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) by hinting at a sudden urge to return to the Moroccan squad.
This could also mean that Fouzi Lekjaa’s, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), recent vows to put an end to the long-standing rift between Halilhodzic and the expelled players may have proved fruitful.
The FRMF president also noted that he will hold a meeting with Halilhodzic at the end of this month after he returns from vacation to solve the rift between the Bosnian coach and the players before the World Cup kick-off.
However, it remains to be seen whether a long-awaited comeback of Mazraoui to the national team is a reality to be cherished by the Moroccan football fans or if his rift with the Bosnian coach will prevail.
