Rabat – A new weather alert from the Directorate General of Meteorology expects a new heatwave to hit several provinces across Morocco.
Temperatures ranging between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius are forecast in the provinces of Zagora, Tata, Es-Semara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
Meanwhile, temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees are expected in the provinces of Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Errachidia, Khenifra, Boulemane, Chichaoua, and Guercif.
The same temperatures are expected in Taounate, Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, and Khouribga.
Settat, Kelaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, and Guelmim are also expected to endure temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees.
Hot weather is typical during the summer season in Morocco, especially in the central and southern regions.
Coastal cities have also experienced high temperatures, especially at the end of June and during the first week of July.
It was not until the second week of July that temperatures decreased from 38 to between 26 and 28 degrees, especially in Rabat.
In response to the increasing temperatures, Morocco’s Health Ministry urged citizens to avoid going outdoors during the hottest hours of the day.
The ministry advised citizens to wear light clothing and avoid physical exertion, stressing that families and relatives should check on elderly or sick individuals and ensure they are well hydrated.
Anyone experiencing symptoms such as high fever, unusual fatigue, dizziness, headaches, intense thirst, muscle cramps, confusion, unusual drowsiness, redness, or restlessness should seek medical attention immediately at the nearest healthcare facility, according to the ministry’s alert.
