Rabat – England and Argentina are set to face each other on Wednesday 14, with Lionel Messi against Harry Kane, to add a new chapter to one of football’s greatest rivalries.
This World Cup semifinal clash will be the first meeting between the Three Lions and Lionel Messi, and also Argentina’s toughest test of the tournament after a relatively favorable route to the last four.
Despite a career of more than two decades, Messi has never faced England at the senior international level.
That will change when the 2022 World Champions take on Thomas Tuchel’s side for a place in the 2026World Cup final.
The showdown is expected to pit England’s experienced spine, led by Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, who are among the top contenders in this year’s Golden Boot race, against Argentina, which is still relying on Messi’s creativity and leadership.
The semifinal is going to be Argentina’s first real test of the tournament after reaching the last four without facing one of FIFA’s highest-ranked nations.
The match could also have a major impact on the Golden Boot race, with Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Lionel Messi both looking to strengthen their scoring tallies and move a step closer to finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
With a place in the World Cup final on the line, the historical meeting between England and Messi could become one of the defining moments of the 2026 tournament.
